About the role
The Head of Data, Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL) leads ATNi’s approach to measuring, understanding, and maximizing its impact, ensuring data is accessible, usable, and compellingly visualized for diverse audiences. Working closely with the Executive Director, this role drives data-informed decision-making, strengthens organizational learning, and advances the use of data, AI, and technology across the organization.
As a member of ATNi’s extended management team, the role contributes to strategic discussions and represents ATNi in external forums and partnerships.
In this role, you will:
Strengthen and grow the MEL & Data function ensuring ATNi can effectively implement its strategy and scale its impact
Lead the MEL & Data workstream, ensuring excellence in data management, continuous learning and innovation, including through rationalised and effective AI integration, evaluation methodologies, and the generation of actionable insights
Represent ATNi externally, contributing to its reputation through thought leadership and strategic engagement

Data & AI strategy and management
Lead ATNi’s data strategy, ensuring data is effectively collected, processed, analysed, published and leveraged for AI and other various innovative purposes to strengthening itsimpact.
Enable innovation through effective, safe, ethical and practical use of AI and machine learning, enhancing research and policy analysis capabilities.
Ensure data integrity, security, and ethical use, aligning with best practices in responsible AI and compliance standards.
Promote open data practices, transforming ATNi’s datasets into public assets and integrating them into analytical processes which can be used by other actors pushing for improved private sector accountability (governments, civil society, etc)
Oversee ATNi's development infrastructure and data tooling, ensuring systems are well-documented, maintainable, and visible to external stakeholders.
Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning
Design and maintain monitoring frameworks, indicators, theories of change, results frameworks, and learning plans. Systems that enable ATNi to effectively track progress, assess impact, maintainaccountability, and clearly demonstrate the value of its initiatives.
Support adaptive planning processes, using real-time data and insights to refine strategies, improve project effectiveness, and respond to emerging challenges.
Translate MEL findings into strategic recommendations, influencing management decisions and strengthening ATNi’s ability to foster systemic change.
Leadership & team management
Steward and supervise the MEL & Data team (3-4 people you included), fostering professional growth and collaboration within ATNi, while also ensuring alignment with ATNi’s broader mission.
Plan and allocate resources effectively, including team capacity, and project time allocation.
Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture.
Provide professional development opportunities for team members.
Cross-functional collaboration & integration
Collaborate with the Research and Policy teams to deepen the analytical rigor and relevance of ATNi’s assessments.
Partner with other Heads (research, partnerships, program development, policy and communications) to ensure MEL & Data insights are embedded across workstreams, aligned with ATNi’s Theory of Change, and contribute meaningfully to the organization’s monitoring and learning framework.
Coordinate with Project and Research Leads to align MEL & Data strategies with ATNi’s broader impact goals and support progress toward organizational targets.
Resource mobilization
Represent ATNi in high-level meetings, AI & Data forums, webinars, and industry events, advocating for strategic technological partnerships and funding opportunities.
Develop proposals and grant applications in collaboration with the fundraising team and support compliance reporting.
Education & Experience
Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Public Health, Data Science, International Development, Economics, or a related discipline
At least 8–12 years of relevant professional experience in data strategy, monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL), or impact measurement, preferably within international development, or food systems
Familiarity with data governance and data technologies, responsible AI, and ethical data practices is an advantage
Key Skills & Competencies

Data & AI fluency: Ability to use AI and emerging technologies to enhance research and decision-making.
Strategic thinking: Uses data insights to inform organizational strategy and policy influence.

Cross-functional leadership: Collaborates effectively across workstreams and projects to align MEL & Data with ATNi’s strategy.

We offer a meaningful leadership role within a fast-growing, mission-driven international organization working to transform global food systems and improve access to nutrition worldwide. A full-time or part time position (32–40 hours per week)
Gross monthly salary of €5,000–€6,000 (based on full-time employment and depending on experience)
26 days of annual leave (full-time basis), plus public holidays
Pension contribution and monthly health insurance allowance €300
Commuting costs by public transport (2nd class)
Annual learning and development budget to support your professional growth
An initial one-year contract, with the intention to extend based on performance
A hybrid working model (50% office-based in Utrecht), with flexibility to support work–life balance
This postholder would ideally be based the Netherlands. S/he reports to the Executive Director and is part of ATNi’s Extended Management Team.
